&

Pid web gallery´s current exhibiting artist Mike blackman is visiting from the UK and will presnet his work - Bird on the Wire

Bird on a wire

Time Capsule – Lu Pingyuan Solo Exhibition at Galleri Box

Nov 18th – Dec 18th, 2011
Opening Reception: Friday, November 18th 6-9pm
Galleri Box
Kastellgatan 10
Gothenburg, Sweden

Time Capsule

Time Capsule is a presentation of Chinese artist Lu Pingyuan’s work process during his stay in Gothenburg as IASPIS fellow. In order to explore new ways of exhibition production and to remove himself from the standard practices of showing exhibitions of contemporary art in China today, Lu has chosen to present his work in the form of models even though the work has been created in full scale. The artist sees the gallery space as a medical capsule where the art becomes the active ingredient and the space the inactive vessel – the capsule. This specific capsule is a slice of time from his stay in Sweden and Lu’s medicine that helps him to achieve calmness. The exhibition orbits round subjects such as; competition within the art world and the different rules this game has in China and the Western world, artists frustration over always being pressured for innovation and originality and investigates the relationship between communist ideology and contemporary art.

Lu Pingyuan b. 1984, Zhejiang, China is a graduate from Shanghai Institute of Design China Academy of Art who now lives and works in Shanghai. His solo exhibitions and several group shows include: ”Autonomous breathing” in M50 Creative Space, Shanghai (2010). The Youth Sale Store, Peking Fine Arts, Beijing (2010), DDM warehouse space, Shanghai (2009): Art Economies beyond Pattern Recognition, Osage Gallery, Shanghai (2009): KÅT A4 Galleri Box, Gothenburg (2009): Xiaozhizuo no. 8, Zhenda MOMA (2009): Xiaozhizuo no. 5, Shopping Gallery Shanghai (2008)

With the support of IASPIS and The Mommy Foundation. Thanks to Louise Lam for interpreting.
