Chinese Contemporary Art – What’s Next? Part I at Gothenburg Art Museum

Serbian independent curator and writerBiljana Ciric lives and works since several years in Shanghai. Previously she worked at Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art and co-curated the Chinese participation in the Singaporebiennale 2006. Her projectMigration Addicts was part of the Venice Biennale 2007 and the Shenzhen/Hong Kong Bi-city Biennial of Urbanism and Architecture. Among her exhibitions one can find Strategies from Within – Contemporary Art Practices in Vietnam and Cambodia and a retrospective of Yoko Ono, both at the Ke Center for Contemporary Art, the Guangdong Museum of Art. She has further curated the site specific public interbvention project intrude 366, 2008, and in 2009 History in Making: Shanghai 1979–2009: 30 Years Retrospective of Shanghai Contemporary Culture. Her most recent project is Contemporaneity – Contemporary Art of Indonesia at the Shanghais MoCA, and Body as a Museum that was shown at Tensta konsthall last winer 2010-11. She is the initator of Taking the Stage Over, a yearlong investigation realted to performative aspects within contempoitrayt art and has presented Bestue Vives, Tino Sehgal and Antti Laitinen. She is the co-curator för Asia Triennial Manchester 2011 that opened this September. Biljana Ciric is a regular contributor to several publications such as Yi Shu Journal, Flash Art and participated in the former number of Paletten.
